The challenges that await you
Under the authority of the immediate supervisor, the incumbent conducts research, drafts documents of all kinds, makes representations before all common law and administrative courts, and acts as legal advisor to municipal services or other organizations, upon request.
More specifically, you will be called upon to:
- Study the requests submitted to them in light of the facts, the law, case law, and doctrine and their consequences;
- Act as a legal advisor to the City services;
- Provide legal opinions concerning various areas of law, but particularly in municipal taxation;
- Make representations and defend the interests of the City in litigation before the courts and various organizations, with a predominance in the field of municipal taxation;
- Assume full responsibility for litigation files and manage diverse files autonomously;
- Analyze, draft, and comment on acts and procedures;
- Negotiate with various stakeholders in the context of judicial proceedings and draft judgment projects;
- Engage in negotiations, negotiate, and recommend the signing of agreements with third parties;
- Analyze, draft, and comment on bills, policies, municipal regulations, calls for tenders, specifications, case law, and doctrine, analyze the principles, and inform the City of changes and their impacts;
- Develop and disseminate training and information programs in their area of expertise.
The ideal profile for us
- Member in good standing of the Quebec Bar for at least six (6) years;
- Relevant experience as a lawyer in municipal taxation;
- Experience in expropriation is an asset;
- Open and motivated to work on diverse topics.
